home: Justin Colyn preface
It's kind of hard to write nice things about oneself. One could say that it's because of humility. However, maybe it's because public professions make one accountable; one must be the nice person that they claim to be. Maybe this is a good thing though...
autobio
I grew up in the church. Since I was a kid, I've been involved with church sound systems; I never thought I'd make a career of this though. What I knew was that I'd make a career serving people.
In high school a buddy of mine, Andy, would quip 'live to serve' anytime he'd do anything for anyone - big or small. That seems to have stuck with me.
In university at Redeemer I grew a great deal, both as a person and in technical skills. Involved in a monthly worship service, I served as the sound guy when the previous tech left. Suddenly I found myself regularly mixing a 13 piece band in front of more than a thousand people.
Connecting with a friend at church, I was given the opporutinty to work part-time for his sound company on small shows. Those shows led to bigger shows. Other companies we worked with were impressed with my work ethic and attitude; it wasn't long until I became pretty busy as a freelance tech.
Throughout this time, I continued other pursuits. I led the youth program at my church and ran the local food bank. I valued the work I was doing, both for these sound companies and in the social services.
I lived for quite a while chasing two independent careers. In a lot of ways, I really enjoyed the professional audio work. However, I couldn't let go of the other endeavors; somehow they seemed like more noble pursuits.
In 2007, I made a great decision to pursue the audio visual business full-time. This business is rich with opporunities to provide meaningful service to people, the institutions they make up, and the businesses they work within.
If you are a public speaker who needs audio/video reinforcement for a conference, if you are a church leader who needs a audio system that better supports your ministry, or if you are the rhythm guitarist who needs more mandolin in your monitor, I'm here to serve you.
