design/installation: contractor checklist
We are proud to carry out our work with integrity, artistry, and competency.
The following list articulates examples of how these three things set us apart from other contractors. Use this list as a reference point when evaluating any contractor.
Integrity
- Do you feel comfortable with your contractor? Discernment is a gift and hard to measure subjectively. However, it is important that you find a contractor who you trust.
- Does the contractor have relevant references from similar projects? Make sure to ask for them. Make sure to go one step further and contact these people.
Artistry
- Is the contractor able to both understand your needs and propose creative solutions that fit those needs.
- Are you confident that the contractors passion and excitement about his or her work will result in quality workmanship and attention to detail?
Competency
- Is the contractor's main focus professional sound and video systems? The requirements in designing a system for live sound or video reproduction are very different from those of home theatre, recording, or broadcast. Portable sound systems offered by many musical instrument stores suffer severe limitations when compared with equipment available for installed, engineered systems. Portable video projectors used for small presentations or home theatre differ greatly from larger installed systems.
- Does the contractor rely on scientific principles when designing the system? Is the contractor able to explain to you why a particular design works well based on basic principals of physics and acoustics?
- Does the contractor use computerized modeling software (such as EASE) in order to evaluate and recommend the most suitable design for loudspeaker systems?
- Are measurement tools, such as Smaart, other RTAs, voltmeters and impedance meters available both to troubleshoot any sound system problems and to properly tune systems once installed? -Are light meters used to measure ambient lighting and ensure that appropriately powered projectors are used?
